Boot maintenance

How to take care of your boots

To preserve the appearance and extend the life of your handmade Lucchese boots, we recommend a Clean-Condition-Polish-Protect process. Refer to the information below for specific types of leather.

Smooth leather

CLEAN: Brush off dirt or dust with a damp cloth or soft brush.
CONDITION: Apply a leather conditioner.
POLISH: Apply a neutral or matching cream-based polish and buff with a soft cloth.
PROTECT: Use the above methods to provide protection.

Suede / Stone washed leather

BEFORE WEARING: Treat new boots with a non-silicone water and stain protector.
CLEAN: Brush dirt and dust off with a damp cloth or soft brush.
POLISH: N/A - Avoid polish or creams, as this will damage the material.
PROTECT: Apply a non-silicone water and stain protector.

SUEDE TIPS:
Store suede boots in a way that allows them to breathe. Keep away from light and damp environments. If the suede gets wet, soak up excess moisture with a clean towel and allow it to dry naturally. To speed up drying, use boot trees. But avoid any direct heat source to speed up the process. Use a nail file or a wire bristle brush to remove dry mud and scuff marks with gentle strokes.

Exotics

CLEAN: Brush off dirt or dust with a damp cloth or soft brush.
CONDITION: Apply an exotic leather conditioner to your boots in several thin layers.
POLISH: Apply a neutral or matching cream-based polish and buff with a soft cloth.
PROTECT: Apply a non-silicone water and stain protector.

SNAKESKIN TIPS:
When cleaning, conditioning and protecting, go with the grain of the scales and avoid polish.

Dress

To bring outsoles and heels back to life, apply an edge dressing polish - a product designed solely to retouch and care for your boots' foundation.

TIP:
It's very common that one foot may be slightly larger than the other. If so, Lucchese recommends ordering the size that fits the largest foot or place a special order with Customer Service.

Dry

After cleaning or becoming wet, allow boots to dry naturally at room temperature.

Perch

Using cedar boot trees in your boots will help maintain the original shape and prevent boots from curling. Regular use also allows moisture to absorb into the cedar, which naturally eliminates odor.

TIP:
Refrain from using your hand to press the toe area to determine fit as you would with a shoe. This method isn't a true determination with boots and could damage the leather.

Boots toes / heels / soles

Lucchese offers a variety of toes, heels and soles. This selection allows every customer to find or create a boot suited for his or her particular lifestyle and personality. If you're considering a new toe or heel style, be sure to do a test run, because the change could alter your fit.
