Lucchese faced Orchard Hill in the Joe Barry Memorial Cup Semifinals on January 21st and 22nd. It was tough match by all accounts — one which spanned across two days and two fields of play.
Beginning on Wednesday at the IPC Field 3, the two teams set about on what was to become a very intense game. By the end of the second chukker, two horses had fallen due to the soft field. The game was then moved to IPC Field 5, where we saw the scores reach 8 - 6 in favor of Orchard Hill.
Finally, a dramatic collision halted play for that day and the match was continued the following morning with Geronimo Obregon standing in for an injured Andres Weisz.
The scores continued to creep up Thursday morning to 13 - 13 in a closely fought match. Ultimately, the win fell to Orchard Hill at 14 - 13, but it had remained anyone's game until there were only 23 seconds left on the clock in the final chukker.
